One of my many cultural/visual/contextual inspirations is the Soviet space program: Gagarin, Laika, Baikonur cosmodrome. It is almost like one of those alternate history sci-fi scenarios. Except that it really happened.
 

Vostok is a lightweight side table out of maple and walnut. Design of the top evokes rays of light at sunrise.
 

Have you ever seen the movie "Solaris"? Not the one by Steven Soderbergh, but the old, Russian one directed by Andriy Tarkovsky? So, I imagine this table sitting in the lounge of the space station from that movie.
